Just Consider It

We've all heard of global warming, now whether not this is in fact all true is another topic entirely. But as far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with at least considering the it. This is our Earth, we might as well understand what we're doing to it while we're living here

Ice Age (just like the movie minus the talking animals)

Random Fact of the day: Some scientist are fearing the coming of another ice age in the next 100 years
Alright let me start of by saying- there is NOTHING wrong with using Wikipedia. I mean I know we’ve all be told by our oh so wonderful English teachers “Don’t use Wikipedia”, like it’s the devil or something. But I mean come on seriously, it is a perfectly acceptable website to use. Now granted you shouldn’t take everything for face value on there but you really shouldn’t do that anywhere, on any website. Let me teach you a very valuable lesson here. ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS use more than one site to double check your facts. You can never get the full story from one source. It’s just not possible.
Ok, now that’s out of the way let’s talk about Ice Ages. Whose seen that cute little cartoon movie about the ice ages with those cute little talking prehistoric animal? Everyone, right? If not then you need to get out from underneath that rock you living under and go see it. Now just image the landscape in that movie, then subtracts all the cute little talking animals and there you have it- an ice age.
By definition (and yes I did pull this exact wording from Wikipedia, but it did line up with all other definitions I found too, so stop your worrying) an ice age or more precisely, "glacial age" denotes a geological period of long-term reduction in the temperature of the Earth's surface and atmosphere, resulting in an expansion of continental ice sheets, polar ice sheets and alpine glaciers. An ice age is a natural system.
Did you catch that? Let me say it again just in case. An ice age is a natural system. Our earth goes through phases. We have documented numerous occasions in which the earth’s temp. has dropped excessive amounts and slipped into what we have named “the ice age”. Now let me point out that yes our earth has had times when it becomes excessively cold. But after each of these instances the earth has also warmed up afterwards. So is it possible that this warm period is simply another cycle that our big ball of life is going through?
In my research I have recently learned that many scientists believe that we are now living in what is call an interglacial period. Interglacial is the warm period between long ice ages. So if I understand this correctly we are right in understanding that there many freezing period in our earth’s history but also after each of these cold periods there was a warm period to back it up. Therefore at this moment in time I am concluding that our earth is simple going through another cycle right now. Now please understand this is just the general basic outline of what I am thinking as of now. This is a much deeper, complex scientific issue that needs more than a 2 sentence conclusion but like most of you, I am only capable of this simple conclusion right now because I still have a limited knowledge on this. This is something that has defiantly spiked my interest and I will be researching further. I mean to think that there are so many people out there stressing that we are killing our earth and the temperatures are rising so rapidly and we may all die soon when in fact we could possibly be coming up on another ice age where we could all freeze to death.
This is certainly a new piece of information that needs to be persued before forming a solid opinion on our global warming position and I encourage all people to do a little research themselves because this is something we should all understand. Yes we do effect our planet with our actions but is it possible that earth still goes through its cycles regardless of our actions?

  1. Holy cow! It makes tons of sense that we are in an "interglacial age" or whatever it was. Like that even sounds legitimate. Btw, you don't need the s on subtracts (paragraph 2) and image is supposed to be imagine (also paragraph 2). At least I think. But I have to admit, you have dumbed this down enough to where even smart individuals like ourselves can comprehend this subject.
